DMD Green announces SocialCycling, an innovative process that will change the way we look at and talk about recycled products and processes. The sustainability conversation now addresses the full lifespan of a product through to its second‐life as a product that meets the needs of communities around the globe.
The brainchild of Jason Warnock, DMD Green managing partner, SocialCycling is a multistep process that takes difficult to recycle materials and facilitates their use in new products. The concept is attracting manufacturers in architecture and design amany companies struggle to find ways to keep their post‐consumer products out of landfills.
The SocialCycling process will bring a new level of accountability and transparency to the A&D community.
- The process takes a post‐consumer product and reclaims materials at a SocialCycling site.
- Once collected, the recycled materials are distributed to converters and/or local artisans who use the materials to make new products for a new community.
- The chain of custody is monitored to ensure that products are used in the creation of new products and never end up in a landfill.
- The program provides certification confirming accuracy and transparency for corporations, their stakeholders and their consumers.
- SocialCycling contributes by saving products from landfills; smart for the environment and the economy.
“What we try to do through our material audits is to create a business case and connection points between brands and converters, community groups or recyclers that makes sense; environmentally, socially and fiscally,” said Warnock.
For example, certain vinyl‐coated fabmaterials can be delivered to workrooms in developing countries and turned into backpacks for local school children.
Warnock will be available for interviews while at Greenbuild, November 11-12, and can be available by appointment to discuss SocialCycling.
